Rwanda has the highest rate of youth unemployment in the region. For the last few years, the highest employment sector for the youth has been motorcycle taxis – Bicycle Taxi (Boda boda work). Other youths including “degree” holders have opted to being Street Vendors for survival
In 2015, at a graduation ceremony, Rwanda’s shameless criminal ruler – Paul Kagame told a gathering of graduands that, “government has no job vacancies for them and they have to be innovative by creating jobs,” coming short on what his rogue regime would do to support self employment initiatives.
Since last year, the police state started a crack down against Street vendors, this brutal campaign is being carried without introducing an alternative for these youths. Currently youth unemployment is at around 70% and this negative campaign has come to exacerbate the unemployment situation in the Country.
Today, criminal Paul Kagame’s militia the local defence unit (DASSO) spend a day harassing, intimidating and arresting Street vendors.
