SHOCK: MORE POLICE OFFICERS ARRESTED IN UGANDA

In Kampala—
Extensive investigation into drug trafficking in Uganda has led to the arrest of two senior police commanders in Kampala.

Senior Commissioner of Police, Dodovik Awita, who heads the Very Important Persons Protection Unit (VIPPU), was early today picked from his office at Nsambya Police Barracks.
www.mknewslink.com has learnt that also Herman Owomugisha, the former commander of Aviation Security at Entebbe International Airport and later Head of Police Flying Squad, has been arrested too.

Police spokesperson; Asan Kasingye told media that Awita’s arrest was part of a probe into a case whereby 85 kgs of narcotics went missing at Entebbe Airport in 2015.

Kasingye further explained: “The Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura instituted a committee that investigated the case but it didn’t do enough work. So, the case was handed over to the Flying Squad Unit that completed it and arrested the suspects.”

The development comes high on the heels of a special report showing 87 suspected drug dealers had disappeared from police custody before appearing in court.

Despite being held at the Airport and their files sanctioned by the Director of Public Prosecution, dozens of traffickers arrested over a period of 13 years did not step in court.

The development underscores the rot in police force which forced President Museveni to order Gen Kayihura to clean up.
The military intelligence recently arrested several police commanders for illegal repatriation of Rwandans and South Sudanese.
