On March 21, 2020, General Paul Kagame government imposed a total lockdown to fight Covid19. Rwandans were ordered to work from home. Shops and markets were closed. But Rwanda is a poor country in which people mostly earn daily wages in agriculture, wholesale and retail, automobile and motorcycles repairs, and the informal sector.
With such economic realities, Rwandans can’t work from home as ordered by Kagame. Rather than starve, some Rwandans are escaping via swamps and rivers, mostly from the capital city back to their rural villages. The embedded video sent from Rwanda shown here gives an example.
