Archbishop Rwaje returns to Rwanda after doctors declare wife cancer free

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) – The Archbishop of the Anglican Church in Rwanda returns to his country after his wife receives lifesaving surgery in Salem.

We were inside the operating room as Josephine Rwaje underwent surgery to remove colon cancer.

A week and a half later, she is cancer free thanks to the generosity of doctors at Lewis Gale Hospital.

To the team of medical professionals and local Reverend, Quigg Lawrence who all changed her life – her message is simple.

“I say really thank you and may God bless them abundantly,” Josephine explained.

“In one word I would say I’m grateful to everyone,” said Onesphore Rwaje, Archbishop of Rwanda.

“To know that her ministry will carry on, she’ll get to be a wife and get to be a grandmother is so incredibly powerful,” said Rev. Quigg Lawerence, Church of the Holy Spirit.

The journey home to Rwanda takes more than 24 hours, but Josephine has many more days to look forward to thanks to cancer treatment received here in southwest Virginia.
