British High Commissioner to Rwanda, William Gelling OBE, Condemns Kagame’s Elections

By David Himbara

Britain has finally come to its sense about Kagame’s electoral thieving and his arrests of his opponents. The British High Commissioner to Rwanda, William Gelling, made extraordinary statements in this respect. These are his words:

“I was concerned…by the lack of clarity in the registration process for candidates which appear to have made it impossible for certain credible candidates to register. Along with other international observers, I personally saw irregularities with the counting of ballots and vote tabulation.”

High Commissioner Gelling then objects to the arrests of opposition figures as follows:

“I am concerned by the arrests and legal challenges in recent weeks. While Rwanda’s political situation and recent terrible history is unique, it is concerning to see the targeting of opposition figures.”

While the High Commissioner does not names, there can be no doubt who has in mind – it is Diane Rwigara. Besides the jailing of Inkingi officials, she is the major political figure that has been terrorized by Kagame since elections.

Better late than never – Britain has finally called a spade a spade. Kagame stole the elections. His 99% is a sham.
