Netherlands: Coalition angry about Rwanda as sponsor Arsenal

THE HAGUE – The government parties are angry that the poor African country Rwanda, which receives Dutch development aid, sponsors the English football club Arsenal.

Coalition partner ChristenUnie (CU) believes that Dutch support must be looked at again, also because there are quite a few problems with human rights in the country.

The Christian party, VVD, CDA and D66 want clarification from Minister Sigrid Kaag of Development Cooperation. She recently announced that she wants to stick to the intensive relationship with Rwanda.
CU Member of Parliament Joël Voordewind is outraged “that a country where we provide solid financial assistance, has now become as much as 34 million euro shirt sponsor”.

The intention is to advertise Arsenal shirts to visit Rwanda.
