The best protection any woman can have is courage – so said Elizabeth Cady Stanton, an American woman leader. Courage and audacity are indeed Diane Rwigara’s protection in Rwanda today. There she was today at her press conference on June 1, 2017 speaking as if she was in any other country but Rwanda. There she was facing the media in the most dignified manner emphasizing her key electoral issues of socioeconomic development and human rights.
Looking at Ms Rwigara at her press conference, one might forget that she is actually speaking in Rwanda. This is a country when most people do not dare talk about politics. This is a country when people simply disappear. This is a country where people end up in prison for expressing their views.
And all the protection Diane Shima Rwigara has is courage and audacity to believe in a democratic and prosperous Rwanda.
