Dear Jack Nziza, May The Good Lord Take Pity On You And Your Employers

By Dr David Himbara

I see you are smiling. You are happy. As a killing machine, you just wiped out three great Rwandans in two months.

One of them was a leading businessman. Employing hundreds of Rwandans. His employees in turn sustained bigger numbers. Dear Jack, in Rwanda, where 82 percent of the population live on less than $2 a day, you just plunged more of your compatriots into poverty.

Dear Jack, the other man you killed was a captain in Rwanda army. He was for years in charge of personal safety of your boss. He was the driver for President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. Think of it – this Captain served his nation by taking great care of the country by ensuring the safety of its leader. By attaining such a rank and trust, the Captain distinguished himself.

Dear Jack, your latest victim was a cardiac surgeon – the best, if not the only one in Rwanda. Do you know what such specialits do? They operate on the heart and surrounding vessels to treat cardiovascular diseases. These doctors undergo an intensive training program that includes four years of university, four years of medical school and at least seven years of residencies and fellowships.

Dear Jack, a surgical career is demanding and rigorous. In other countries, such folks are greatly appreciated, rewarded with highest salary of any practicing medical profession. A median salary for a heart specialist is $288,274 according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. But it is not about money – they save lives.
Dear Jack, do you know what you just cost Rwanda? Immeasurable. I pray for you, and your employers. May the good Lord take pity on you.
