Hunger wrecking havoc in Rwanda! Rwandan National Shot At Uganda Border

A Rwandan national is nursing injuries at a health centre in Kabale District after he was shot while trying to sneak into his country from Uganda.

Jean Piere Havugimana, 28, a resident of Kabya Village Rubaya sub-county Gicumbi district, told journalists on Monday that he was carrying about 50Kgs of Irish potatoes from Uganda before he was shot and injured on Sunday.

The Kigezi region police spokesperson, Elly Maate, said that the victim managed to escape and come back to Uganda through Rushaki border village in Rubaya sub county, Kabale district, where relatives rushed him to Katuna community medical clinic.

“Its alleged that the victim together with a friend crossed to Uganda to look for some Irish potato and as they crossed back to their country later in the evening at around 730Pm they were intercepted by Rwandan security personnel that shot at them injuring the victim before they arrested his colleague,” Mr Maate said.

The latest incident is one of the many that have occurred since February when Rwanda closed its borders with Uganda, accusing the Kampala regime of harassing its citizens and sponsoring rebels to fight Kigali. Kampala denies all the allegations.
