Kagame Strikes Again – Yet Another Head of RDB Is Unceremoniously Dumped

President Paul Kagame changes CEOs of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) like shirts. Remember this is the key and single agency that is supposed to drive investment and exports in Rwanda. From the first CEO Joe Ritchie in 2008/2009, look the turnover of heads of RDB in the last 6 years from 2010 to February 2017:

1. John Gara

2. Claire Akamanzi

3. Valentine Rugwabiza,

4. Francis Gatare

5. Claire Akamanzi

What’s going on here? Obviously, the duty of a Chief Executive Officer is to maximize shareholders’ wealth – in this case Rwandan people – by taking sensible management decisions. But we see here in Kagame’s Rwanda that each RDB’s CEO lasts about a year on average. Can such a situation lead to any good? I highly doubt it.
