At the National Leadership Retreat held at Gabiro, Rwanda, on March 9, 2019, General Paul Kagame had a lot to say about Uganda, including his closure of the common border with Uganda. Kagame insisted that his closure of the common border had nothing to do with Uganda. Kagame said that the closure was due to road construction, which would be completed shortly.
As he put it, ”this will be resolved soon. Let us do whatever is possible to ease traffic flow at the border. There are more serious issues to deal with.” Kagame has now made a U-turn about border closure. Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, on March 25, 2019, Kagame said:
”The problem is not the road or the road being constructed. The problem is politics. We have 100s of people from Rwanda, arrested, detained in prisons for years in Uganda, without being charged or appearing anywhere in court.”
So Mr. Kagame, which is which? Did you close the Rwanda-Uganda border because of road construction or because of politics? Kagame, speaking of Rwandans detained in Uganda, how many Rwandans did your criminal network kidnap, disappear, or even murder in Uganda in the last 20 years? Shame!
