Kigali residents blame jobless youth for the increase in rate of crime

The recent spike in burglary, allegedly spurred by the growing unemployment in the country has created public safety worries.

The increase, mostly in Kigali’s lower-end residential neighbourhoods, has left residents calling for tougher security measures while questioning the work of the crime-fighting initiatives as well as the value for the monthly payment for the security patrols.

Evodia Dusabimana, a resident of Gitega, Nyarugenge District, said incidences of theft have hit a level where security measures need to be strengthened.

Ms Dusabimana said the door of her house was unhinged and all her electronic items namely the TV, decoders and phones stolen at around 3am last week. Full Story
