OPEN LETTER TO GENERAL PAUL KAGAME: Uganda rejects your accusations of torture and your bad neighbor speech

By: Nyangaburofa Mayor

This is a personal letter

First of all let me remind you about Uganda’ s motto For God and my Country. Let me also remind you about Uganda’s National Anthem that says “Oh Uganda may God uphold thee and with neighbours all at our Country call and in peace and friendship we’ll live.” This means Uganda is a Godly country and a country that belongs to God and cannot torture fellow Africans and fellow mankind world wide. Its your country Rwanda that shoots dead, Ugandans inside your country and sends dead bodies and coffins to Uganda’s authorities at the border, people that sheltered you, fed you, watered you, treated your wounds and injuries during your refugee life from 1959 to the time of 1990-1994 liberation war.

General kagame, let me also remind you the opening chorus of the East African community Anthem that calls upon all East Africans to action-to guard and protect the community. It calls for accountability, unity and boldness to build a sustainable community. Why then that speech of dividing communities?

General kagame, you are well aware how you and fellow Rwandans came to Uganda as vulnerable refugees and because Uganda is God’s country warmly received you, fed you, sheltered you, gave you security, educated you, trained you in the military science and leadership and now you and fellow refugees are leaders of Rwanda. This is a good evidence that Uganda is God’s country that believes in justice, peace and pan-Africanism and the well being of mankind world wide.

General kagame, Uganda is still a home to more than 7,000,000 Ethnic people of Rwandan origin who decided to make Uganda their home and are living a noble life in Uganda protected by the law and all government institutions like the rest of Ugandans, other Africans and other nationalities who made Uganda their home. This is a good evidence that Uganda did not torture Rwandans as you claimed in your speech.

General kagame, Uganda is a home to millions of Africans including Rwandans and this may be the reason you have developed animosity to Uganda as a nation and its people, Burundians, Congolese, Sudanese, Somalise and they are all living dignified lives of justice and peace not like Rwanda that recently butchered Banyamulenge Congolese refugees in kiziba camp in the year 2018 because of demonstrating against food rations. United nations high commission for refugees is a witness to Uganda’s good treatment of refugees and so Uganda cannot torture fellow Africans of Rwandans origin as you stated in your speech.

General kagame, Uganda believes in the unity of man and for that matter of all that lives.

Uganda believes in mutual love that enables nature to persist. Uganda doesn’t live by destruction but self- love that compels regard for others. Uganda believes that nations coherent because there is mutual regard among individuals composing them.

General kagame, Uganda believes that mankind is one, seeing that all are equally subject to moral law. Uganda believes that men and women are equal in God’s eyes and no differences of race, and status and the like, but the higher the status of a man , the greater is his responsibility.

General kagame, Uganda’s mission is the brotherhood of Africans and all mankind world wide not merely brotherhood of Ugandans.

General kagame, Uganda’s patriotism is not an exclusive thing. It is all – embrassing and Uganda rejects patriotism which seeks to mount upon the distress or the exploitation of other nationalities.

General kagame, Uganda’s patriotism is consistent with the broadest good of humanity at large that embrace all life , all religions, brotherhood of all mankind and identity with all life, even with such things as crawl upon earth because Uganda claims decent from the same God, and that being so, all life in whatever form it appears must be essentially one.

General kagame, Uganda doesn’t believe in nationalism that is evil, narrow, selfishness, exclusiveness which is the bane of modern nations which is evil that profits at the expense of, and rise on the ruin of, the other.

General kagame, Uganda is a humble nation of God and is trying to serve Africans and humanity at large and doesn’t believe in the service of one’s nation that is inconsistent with the service of the world .

General kagame, Uganda believes in interdependence of nations which is much the ideal of man as self- sufficiency. Man is a social being. Without inter-relation with society he cannot realize his oneness with the universe or suppress his egotism. His social interdependence enables him to test his Faith and prove himself on the touchstone of reality. If a man were so placed or could do place himself as to be absolutely above dependence on his fellow- beings he would become so proud and arrogant as to be a veritable burden and nuisance to the world.

General kagame, dependence on society teaches man the lesson of humanity. That man ought to be able to satisfy most of his essential needs himself is obvious; but it is no less obvious to me that when self- sufficiency is carried to the length of isolating oneself from society it almost amount to sin.

General kagame, A man cannot become self- sufficiency even in respect of all the various operations from the growing of cotton to the spinning of the yarn. He has are some stage or other to take the aid of the members of the family. And if one may take help from one’s own family, why not from one’s neighbour? Or otherwise what is the significance of the great saying, “The World is my family?”

General kagame, duties to self, to the family, to the country and to the world are not independent of one another. One cannot do good to the country by injuring the world at large.

General kagame, we must die that the country may live and the country must die that the world may live. But only pure things can be offered in sacrifice. Therefore, self- purification is the first step. When the heart is pure , we at once realize what is our duty are every moment.

General kagame, the golden way is to be friends with the world and to regard the whole human family as one.

General kagame, Uganda’s patriotism is not exclusive; it is calculated not only not to hurt another nation but to benefit all in the true sense of the word but never be a menace to the world.

General kagame, Rwanda’s nationalism is respected but not at the expense or exploitation of others, not to degrade other countries.

General kagame, Uganda rejects the system of greed, exploitation and assassinations established by RPF government and disregard of sovereignty and territorial integrity and independence of Uganda and Uganda shall refuse to cooperate with RPF administrators. We say to them come and cooperate and respect one another. Uganda refuse to be lifted of its feet and Uganda must try to save itself. Uganda’s nationalism is not exclusive, nor aggressive , nor destructive. It is health-giving, religious and therefore humanitarian. Rwanda must learn to live before she can aspire to die for humanity.

Rwanda should be all in all, consistently with the well- being of other nations of the world. Kagame can keep Rwanda intact and its freedom also intact only if he has goodwill towards the whole of the human family and not merely for the human family which inhabits the little spot of the earth called Rwanda.

General kagame, permanent peace is attained by godliness of human nature. Other methods hitherto adopted have failed because rock-bottom sincerity on the part of those who have striven has been lacking. Not that they have realized this lack. Peace is unattained by part performance of conditions, even as a chemical combination is impossible without complete fulfillment of the conditions of attainment thereof.
