Stop President Paul Kagame from attending CERAweek 2016

“IHS CERAWeek is the premier annual international gathering of energy industry leaders, experts, government officials and policymakers, leaders from the technology, financial, and industrial communities – and energy technology innovators. This year marks the 35th anniversary of this influential event, ranked among the top five “corporate leader” conferences in the world. Midst the turbulence and uncertainty in energy markets this year, CERAWeek 2016 will provide new insights and critically-important dialogue – and a very cost efficient way to engage on the most urgent questions with decision-makers from around the world,” as quoted from http://ceraweek.com/2016/

Paul Kagame of Rwanda has been an invited speaker at this event, however, his exact speaking time has not been announced. Paul Kagame has over a twenty year record of massive human rights violations in both Rwanda and DRC, censored all freedom of speech in the press inside Rwanda, has a history of extrajudicial killings throughout the region and has made many threats throughout the world to silence his critics.Further, there is no open political space and all politicians who have attempted to challenge him in elections have been either arrested or murdered. Moreover, there are 20 years of detailed reports done by the UN Group of Experts, Oxfam, Amnesty International and numerous other human rights groups detailing his crimes against humanity.

Most recently, Kagame has masterminded a reverse political coup in order to remain in power for the next 34 years. He touts himself the world over as the development king of Africa but his shiney city on a hill is built upon a facade of deep rooted lies and fear.

1. There is no central human waste disposal system in Kigali nor anywhere else in Rwanda.

2. Electricity, power issues and access to clean water have plague the country for months at a time.

3. With a national income average of $700 per year, less than a dollar per day, how can Rwanda be held up as an economic and development miracle? http://data.worldbank.org/country/rwanda

So, how can a such a speaker be considered as a development leader when his country is plagued by fear and poverty and lack of healthcare services?

We ask that the CERAweek committee member reconsider inviting Paul Kagame to speak at their event when his leadership skills and lack of national progress come under constant question.

Please sign the petition and show CERAweek that their reputation in on the line when they host a man who has created a developmental fraud.
