Postponement of the Goma mini-summit

THE STRATEGY OF PEACE IS WHAT UGANDA WILL PURSUE IN THE REGION

This summit should bring together 5 African heads of state in this case, Angola, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These sub-regional meetings should focus on several topics, namely: the management of border security issues, the promotion of trade, the management of the Covid-19 pandemic at the borders, as well as other relevant topics. .

For his part, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni was not very keen on coming to this Goma Mini-summit, explains a diplomatic source. To believe him, the latter does not digest the rapprochement between Kagame and Tshisekedi. It is recalled that Rwanda had already sparked a controversy provoked by Ambassador Vincent Karega. In this condition, there were reasons to fear the reactions in Goma, the stronghold of Lucha.

For his part, the Angolan João Lourenço was in full activity inside his country and returned to the Angolan capital at the weekend.

The security situation in eastern DRC is overly criticized. Ituri, the two Kivus are suffering greatly and these three provinces are connected with Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi. The governors of these three provinces in their advocacy in Kinshasa, insisted on the fight against foreign armed groups and this mini-summit was an opportunity to obtain the commitment of Yoweri Museveni, Evariste Ndayishimiye and Paul Kagame.

Questions arise to know the why of the postponement of this summit? Some people wonder if it is Congolese diplomacy that has failed?

In the meantime, the advance teams deployed in Goma in South Kivu by the Presidency of the Republic packed their luggage this weekend to return to the capital.
