President Kagame’s government’ caught red-handed lying about detaining Violette Uwamahoro

Rwanda admits arrest of British mother. Rwanda has admitted that it has a British mother in custody, almost three weeks after she disappeared. President Kagame’s government had told the Foreign Office repeatedly that police had not detained Violette Uwamahoro, a youth worker living in Leeds.

However, a Rwandan police spokesman has confirmed that she had been arrested “based on a tip-off that she is involved in criminal dealings constituting serious crimes, including attempts to recruit people into a criminal network”.

Ms Uwamahoro, 39, who has two children aged eight and ten, disappeared on Valentine’s Day and had been held in secret until Friday, when the British deputy high commissioner was allowed to visit her at the police headquarters.
