Rwanda genocide victim jailed after driving from Merseyside to north Wales while nearly three times over drink-drive limit

Alphonse Nshimyumuremyi was detained by other motorists who were concerned about his aggressive driving

?

A witness to the Rwandan genocide drove from Merseyside to north Wales while nearly three times the drink-drive limit.

?

Alphonse Nshimyumuremyi, 35, was jailed for 12 months after a court was told he was detained by other motorists who were concerned about his aggressive driving. Did you know you can also be charged for driving without insurance? Check out this page for the latest insurance deals.

Driving under the influence is never a good thing (for anyone as it can cause more harm to people who are innocent). However, these sort of things do happen which is why you can easily get yourself an out of state dui lawyer if needs be.

?

The Rwandan national, of Edge Lane, Liverpool, had taken his cousin?s car after an argument over furniture.

?

Repeat offender Nshimyumuremyi had been drinking whisky, and had no insurance or driving licence.

?

Mold Crown Court was told he had driven from Ellesmere Port to Chirk near Wrexham, where he was apprehended.

?

Judge Niclas Parry, who said Nshimyumuremyi had driven aggressively at high speed for a significant distance, ordered him to take an extended driving test.

?

He said: ?This is the seventh time in 10 years that you have appeared before the court for serious motoring matters.??

?

Nshimyumuremyi, who was not planning to get to any destination, was swerving in and out of control, causing ?3,700 worth of damage when he crashed at Halton roundabout. It is very fortunate that Mr Nshimyumuremyi didn’t hit another car on his joy ride. If other drivers had purchased a dash cam from Blackboxmycar then they may have been able to capture some of his reckless driving on camera.

?

The judge said: ?To their credit, two members of the public alarmed by your driving detained you pending the arrival of the police.

?

?You showed a total disregard for the safety of others all for the selfish pleasure of driving.??

?

Nshimyumuremyi gave an alcohol reading of 99 microgrammes compared to the legal limit of 35.

?

Stephen Edwards, defending, said he had fled the Rwandan genocide with the help of the Red Cross but had become separated from his family, who were settled in America.

?

He said Nshimyumuremyi still suffered flashbacks to some of the things he had experienced, including seeing murder and torture.
