Rwanda Pulls Out Of December CECAFA Tourney To Be Held In Kampala

Rwanda’s national football team will not take part in the December Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Senior challenge cup tournament to be held in Kampala. According to reports, the Amavubi stars have pulled out due to a lack of budget for their partitipation.

The tournament will begin in early December. CECAFA is an association of the football playing nations in Eastern Africa. It is also an affiliate of CAF.

The CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup is the oldest football tournament in Africa. It is a tournament of FIFA and the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), and includes national teams from Central and East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Zanzibar, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi and Djibouti).

Rwanda’s withdrawal is expected to fuel speculation about the two countries’ relations.

The relations between Uganda and Rwanda are at their worst with the two countries trading accusations and counter accusations of plotting to destabilise the other.

Early this year, Rwanda closed her border with Uganda and later warned Rwandese traveling to Uganda that the country will not be able to guarantee their safety.

However, efforts are underway to solve the impasse.
