RWANDANS CAN’T INHERIT PEACE UNTIL THEY GIVE UP AUTOCRATIC SYMPATHIES TO UPHOLD THE RULE OF DEMOCRACY.

By Jean Rukika.

One of the five pivotal principles of the Republic is peaceful succession of Heads of State in the office and governing a limited number of terms. This is the thing most desired to happen in Rwanda. We long to bid farewell to dictatorial regimes and become a democratically principled republic in which the power will be given & taken away by the people.

Our nation is advancing to nowhere as long as our Presidents do not depend on the people. The rule of unlimited terms climaxes in power drunkenness which nurtures arrogance and insubordination toward the people who are power-givers. Then endless unrests ruin the country and sadly enough the consequences squarely land on innocent civilians.

Despite the seemingly limitless madness of our populist Presidents and their opportunistic entourages, the tragic depths of our history would have taught us a lot of lessons. Who doesn’t yet know how dictatorship boomerangs?
