Rwanda has refuted reports in the Ugandan media that a schedule has been set for the meeting of the AdHoc Commission between Rwanda and Uganda to follow up on the implementation of the Luanda Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Uganda’s Chimpreports news website reported on Sunday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an invitation to Kigali – providing details of the meeting which the website said will take place on November 13.
In response to the article, Rwanda’s State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of East African Community Affairs, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, refuted the media reports saying Rwanda has not received any consultation from Uganda concerning the meeting.
“It’s weird to learn this through Ugandan newspapers. We were not consulted on any date and @RwandaMFA or @RwandainUganda hasn’t received any invitation,” Amb. Nduhungirehe tweeted with a link of the story.
On September 16, the first meeting of the AdHoc Commission between Rwanda and Uganda took place, in which the two countries, represented by Foreign Affairs Minister of Uganda Sam Kutesa and Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe on the Rwandan side agreed that the next meeting would take place in Kampala 30 days from that time.
Last week, Amb. Nduhungirehe told KT Press that Rwanda was still waiting for Uganda’s invitation – even days after the set deadline had expired.
“It was Kampala to invite us. We haven’t received the invitation,” Minister Nduhungirehe said.
When the two countries met in Kigali, officials vowed to take necessary steps to implement the provisions of the MoU which was signed on August 21, 2019, in Luanda, Angola aimed at resolving tensions between the two countries.
Article 7 of the Kigali Communiqué indicated that both countries would meet in Kampala after 30 days to review the progress of the implementation of the Luanda MoU which set out the terms the two countries have to follow in the reconciliation process.
