The week of 4–10 July 2021 was beautiful and momentous for the people of South Africa. Three leading untouchables faced the might of the law and lost. Former president Jacob Zuma was sent to jail for contempt of court for refusing to address the State Capture Commission that is investigating corruption during his presidency. Zuma’s two leading allies similarly faced the might of the law and lost. The suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule lost his bid for reinstatement. Carl Niehaus, spokesperson of the disbanded uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), was arrested for contravening lockdown regulations.
