Ugandan Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda is currently occupied with securing the release of a total of seven Ugandans including two pupils who were arrested in early November 2019 by Rwandan security for allegedly smuggling chicken to the neighboring country.
ChimpReports has exclusively learnt that the two minors aged15 and 16 and five adults from Kamwezi sub-county in Rukiga district were intercepted and detained in Nyagatare district in Rwanda.
“The Embassy is doing everything possible to secure the release of the seven people including two boys who were supposed to sit for PLE,” said a source.
The seven had crossed the border with chicken through Mpororo, where Rwanda has reportedly intensified deployments of local defense units targeting Rwandans entering Uganda to look for food and Ugandans entering Rwanda to sell mainly food items. The minors are reportedly being held in same cell with the adults for now coming to three weeks.
“The plight of two children put in the same cell with adults is also a big worry. We are hoping to get them out this week,” added the source.
Just over a week ago two Ugandans; John Bosco Tuhirirwe, 30 and Job Byarushaga, 37 both from the same Kamwezi sub county in Rukiga district were shot dead on November 10th 2019 in Nyagatare district, Rwanda about 200 metres from the Ugandan border.
The deceased and three other colleagues were accused of smuggling tobacco to Rwanda using bicycles through the same Mpororo border point. When contacted on phone for a comment, Foreign Affairs Spokesman, Ambassador Richard Nam directed us to the Embassy in Rwanda since he is out of office today.
